Picture Perfect: Mastering the Fall Photoshoot 🍁

Erica Wiley

Now that the air is crisp & the leaves are ALL THE COLORS 🍁🍁🍁, it's the perfect time to embrace the beauty of fall through captivating photoshoots. Whether you're doing the yearly fam photos or just someone who loves being in front of the camera (who are you people 🤣), I've gathered the top tips and Wish Upon wardrobe essentials for a successful fall photo sesh.

Tip 1: Timing is Everything

The enchanting soft, warm light of the golden hour is a photographer's best friend. Plan your fall photoshoot during the early morning or late afternoon to make the most of this magical light, which complements fall's colors and creates a soft, moody atmosphere.
*Local Suggestion: We've found 4:45pm is just about perfect for this time of year in Wisconsin!

Tip 2: Embrace Nature

Fall is all about nature's artistry, so choose an outdoor location that showcases autumn's palette. Forests, parks, and lakesides provide the perfect backdrop with their vibrant foliage, creating an irresistible setting.
*Local Suggestion: Mckee Farms Park in Fitchburg is our go-to now that the pups are older and it's harder for them to travel longer distances in the car.

Tip 3: Layer Up

Autumn weather can be unpredictable. To stay comfortable and stylish, opt for layered outfits. A cozy sweater or cardigan is a fall staple, giving you the flexibility to add or remove layers as needed. Layering also adds depth and interest to your photos. Tip 4: Earthy Tones and Jewel Colors

When it comes to the colors that work best for fall photoshoots, you can't go wrong with earthy tones such as warm browns and tans, deep greens & rich burgundies. Jewel colors like emerald, sapphire, magenta and amethyst add a touch of luxury and elegance. Tip 5: Texture Matters

Incorporate textures that are synonymous with fall. Think cozy knits for tops, tweeds, leather or suede for outerwear. These materials not only keep you warm but also add dimension. Tip 6: Accessorize Mindfully

Gold accessories can elevate your fall look and add personality to your photos. Scarves, hats, tights, and can tie your outfit together and emphasize the autumn theme.
Tip 7: Footwear Options

For an outdoor shoot, practical yet stylish footwear is a must. Ankle boots or knee-high boots in neutral hues are great choices. They keep you comfortable and provide the finishing touch.

Tip 8: Complementary Makeup

Natural and earthy makeup looks (think Smoky Brown Eye) are perfect for fall photoshoots. Opt for warm eyeshadows, soft blush, and a berry-hued lip (see my Blog on my favorite lip product for the perfect juicy berry color) to enhance your overall look without overpowering the scene. 🌟 Fall Make Up Tutorial

Achieving a successful fall photoshoot involves a blend of timing, location, and wardrobe choices and of course the right photographer. For the local Wishies, I highly recommend Picture It Perfect Media. We’ve used their talents for years and Maddie is creative, kind and professional!

Just remember, layer up with cozy textures, use a color palette inspired by the gorgeous world outside and most of all, embrace the magic of the season and make the most out of making the memory! ❤️

Love and light,
Erica

P.S. We’re doing our fall family photos a bit later than typical this year due to some scheduling conflicts but I’m tentatively planning on wearing the Penny For Your Thoughts Top right now and will post our favs photos from our session at a later date!
